Milestone 34 storey residential tower structure completes in Birmingham
A significant milestone is reached with the official topping out of a 34-storey residential tower at Exchange Square Phase 2 development in Birmingham City Centre by McAleer & Rushe.
The ceremony was attended by Grainger plc, the UK’s largest listed residential landlord and owners and operators of the scheme, Developers Nikal and the wider design team, marking months of planning and construction of this landmark residential project as the scheme enters its final stages.
The building will provide 375 high quality rental homes, which were presold to Grainger, and will be professionally managed by their dedicated onsite Resident Services team. New residents of the scheme will benefit from great homes and a range of additional amenities, including a residents lounge, gym, co-working space, and complimentary WiFi.
The Build to Rent development will be a significant addition to Birmingham City Centre and forms part of a new urban village incorporating green infrastructure and landscaping with a communal roof garden for residents located on Level 30.
Exchange Square Phase 2 residential development is part of a two-stage project, with McAleer & Rushe recently completing the construction of a 235-bed Premier Inn hotel which opened in March 2023. A new public square is also due to open shortly.
Commenting at the event Shane McCullagh, Contracts Director at McAleer & Rushe said: We are delighted to have reached this significant milestone on what is an extremely complex project situated in the heart of Birmingham city centre. Our vast experience within the residential market, coupled with the support of our partners Nikal and Grainger, has allowed us to deliver a landmark tower that will provide much needed homes into the city.”
The scheme further builds on Grainger’s existing portfolio of PRS investments in Birmingham, including Gilders Yard in the Jewellery Quarter, a 158-home Build to Rent development which successfully launched in Summer 22.
Michael Keaveney, Director of Land and Development from Grainger plc said: “This is an exciting milestone for our Exchange Square scheme, which will be an excellent addition to our Birmingham and Midlands clusters, providing 375 high-quality, professionally managed and well connected homes for renters in the heart of Birmingham. Located directly opposite the Birmingham HS2 Curzon Street Station, once completed the residential building will be a gateway to the city and include retail space on the lower ground floor and 40 undercroft car parking spaces.
